OPPORTUNITIES & OPTIONS – for Elementary Students and beyond!
There are an amazing number of scholarship opportunities for students, beginning as early as the elementary grades! A sampling of what is available is posted here. Ms. Artsis has additional information available for high school students, and a list on the bulletin board in the counseling area. Deadlines are scattered throughout the year. Each scholarship has a unique theme and specific requirements. RPA encourages families to peruse the possibilities, see what piques your child’s interest, then promote and support them in their personal project.
It’s never too early to plan for your child’s future, planting a vision, building on dreams, and sharing tools to help them grow. The links below are a mere sampling of possibilities…
When your child makes a selection, completes and submits an application, RPA would appreciate being notified and perhaps receive a copy of their entry.
Molalla Communications has simplified their application process. Requirements: Applicants must live within the Molalla Communications’ service boundary and be MCC “members” when applying. “A member” is a family using Molalla Communications for telecommunications or internet services. The link herein specifically refers to the MCC 2015 Scholarships site which is closed at this time. The opportunity to apply opens again February 1st, 2016.
The VFW of Oregon has announced a NEW scholarship opportunity, presenting up to five individual $1,000.00 awards. These scholarships are awarded to children, grandchildren or great grandchildren of Department of Oregon VFW members.
In addition to the statewide promotion, Molalla Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3973 “encourages local students to enter their annual speech and essay contests toward a chance of winning thousands of dollars in scholarships and a trip to Washington, D.C.” The theme changes each year, and can be found at vfw.org. The application and additional information is posted at http://vfworegon.org/scholarships.htm
For additional information about the local focus, contact Patricia Carroll of the Molalla VFW Ladies Auxiliary at 503-829-9600 – or your own local VFW Post. RPA has been advised it is never too early to start on this project and the Molalla VFW is hoping to receive several local applications!
Chemeketa Community College has a scholarship program specifically for students living in their boundaries and/or attending a high school within their boundaries (Marion County, Polk County and part of Yamhill and Lane Counties). This link to the Q&A may be helpful. The scholarship pays full tuition for up to two years – not including fees, books and other miscellaneous expenses. A major requirement is having “earned a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 or better (as of first semester/quarter grades in the final year of high school).”
